Building Energy Rating (BER)

New homes can be rated from plans during the design stage. Existing homes undergo an on-site assessment after which the owners are issued with a BER Certificate and an Advisory Report outlining recommendations for improving the rating of their home. View a sample of a BER certificate.

While there will be no legal obligation on owners to carry out these improvements, it is expected that good ratings will have a positive effect on sale and rental value due to lower running costs.

Only certified energy assessors, certified by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) can carry out assessments and issue BER Certificates.
